What is the Solar Homes Program?

The Solar Homes Program is a Victorian Government initiative delivered by Solar Victoria. It is designed to make it more affordable to switch to solar and efficient electric hot water by providing rebates, and in some cases matching interest-free loans, towards eligible solar panel (PV) and hot water systems.

As a Solahart dealer serving Bayswater and surrounding areas, Solahart Eastern Ranges can help you understand which rebates you may be eligible for and take care of the installation. Solahart is also a listed approved provider under Solar Victoria's Residential Electrification Grants, which support all-electric home upgrades at scale.

Rebates Available in Victoria

The main support available to Victorian households. Amounts and funding rounds are set by Solar Victoria (and the federal program for batteries) and can change over time.

Solar Panel (PV) Rebate

Up to $1,400

A rebate of 50 per cent of the install cost, up to $1,400, towards an eligible solar panel (PV) system. You can add an optional interest-free loan of up to $1,400 to match the rebate.

Hot Water Rebate

Up to $1,000 (or $1,400)

A 50 per cent rebate on an eligible heat pump or solar hot water system, up to $1,000. Choose an eligible locally made product and you could receive up to $1,400.

Home Batteries (Federal)

Around 30% off

The Victorian battery loan has closed. Battery support now comes through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, applied as an upfront discount at installation.

Solar for Rentals

Up to $1,400

Rental providers can claim the solar panel (PV) rebate on up to two rental properties each financial year, with a matching interest-free loan also available.

Who is Eligible?

To claim a Solar Homes Program rebate, households generally need to meet the following criteria:

You are the owner-occupier of an existing property, or the owner of a home under construction (rental providers can apply under the rentals stream)
Combined household taxable income of all owners is $150,000 or less per year (updated from 1 July 2026)
The property is valued at under $3 million
The property address has not previously received a solar panel (PV) or battery rebate under the Solar Homes Program
For the solar rebate, no solar (PV) system has been installed at the address in the last 10 years
For the hot water rebate, the system being replaced is at least 3 years old (emergency replacements are also supported)
You use a Solar Victoria authorised retailer and only eligible products

From 1 July 2026, the household income cap dropped from $210,000 to $150,000 per year. Rebate amounts, funding rounds and eligibility criteria are set by Solar Victoria and can change, so always confirm the current details on the official website before making a decision.

Victoria Solar Rebate FAQs

How much is the Victorian solar panel rebate?
Eligible households can receive a rebate of up to $1,400 towards a solar panel (PV) system. It is a 50 per cent rebate on the install cost (to a maximum of $1,400), calculated after other discounts such as Small-scale Technology Certificates. You can also opt in to a matching interest-free loan of up to $1,400.
What about the hot water rebate?
The Solar Homes hot water rebate is a 50 per cent rebate on an eligible heat pump or solar hot water system, up to $1,000. If you choose an eligible locally made product, you could receive up to $1,400. The system being replaced generally needs to be at least 3 years old.
Is there still a battery rebate in Victoria?
The Victorian Government interest-free battery loan has closed and is no longer taking applications. Battery support now comes through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which applies an upfront discount (around 30 per cent on a typical system). We can walk you through what applies to your battery.
What is the income limit?
From 1 July 2026, the combined household taxable income of all owners must be $150,000 or less per year to be eligible for a solar panel (PV) or hot water rebate.
How is the rebate paid?
The rebate is paid directly to your authorised retailer and deducted from your invoice, so you only pay the outstanding balance once the system is installed. If you install before your eligibility is approved, you will not receive the rebate.
Can I get the rebate on a rental property?
Yes. Rental providers can claim the solar panel (PV) rebate on up to two rental properties each financial year, and can also apply for a matching interest-free loan.
Where can I read the official rules?
All rebate amounts, eligibility criteria and terms are published by Solar Victoria at solar.vic.gov.au. We recommend reviewing the official pages for the most up to date information, as figures and funding rounds change.
